Josh Hazlewood has been cleared to become part of the Australian team ahead of the opening Ashes match post-injury worries, but fellow pace bowler Sean Abbott is unavailable

Both suffered muscle problems during their match for New South Wales against Victoria in domestic cricket on Wednesday

Medical examinations revealed Hazlewood, 34 escaped muscle damage. Abbott, 33, who hasn't played Tests, has a "moderate grade" injury

Skipper Pat Cummins will miss the initial match, starting November 21, meaning the absence of a key pace option in Hazlewood would have been a significant setback

The bowler stood doubtful to feature in Perth, as Hazlewood prepares to team up Mitchell Starc and Scott Boland forming the fast bowling unit

Cummins, currently healing from a back injury, is thought to be likely to comeback for the Brisbane match in Brisbane starting on 4 December

Batter Steve Smith will lead Australia in Cummins' absence

Like many of Aussie squad members, Hazlewood is involved in recent matches of domestic cricket in preparation for the historic rivalry

Until this match, he was absent from red-ball cricket with his state team for over twelve months

He felt tightness in his posterior chain towards the end of Victoria's second innings recently and left the field as a precaution

The two bowlers came out to bat during their team's second batting effort during their defeat by 300 runs

"There's seven days until the Test matches - typically prefer the side of caution," stated the captain

"They needed to determine what was happening before pushing it that could worsen anything worse"

"He seldom shows him upbeat, so it was good to see him smiling"

"He's aware of his condition thoroughly. I think he was somewhat concerned (seeking to obtain medical assessment"

Abbott earned 57 appearances for Australia in limited-overs formats

The yet-to-debut the pace bowler is the other seamer in the squad, offering support to the main pace trio
