Female Victim Knifed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Assault Dies
The female victim stabbed repeatedly in the neck during a random assault at a bus stop in Birmingham has passed away, authorities verified.
The deceased woman, aged 34 years, was targeted on Smallbrook Queensway street, right beside the Bullring shopping centre, just prior to 9 PM GMT on Friday, according to police statements.
The suspect, twenty-one, appeared before Birmingham court on Monday, charged over the violent incident.
He was previously accused with attempted murder but following the woman's death charges were upgraded to murder.
Police Response
The force said police personnel will remain around the city centre on Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the woman's family.
Investigators are requesting any eyewitnesses who may have seen the accused, who is described as a Black British national, reportedly dressed in an all-grey tracksuit, black hat, athletic shoes with a backpack.
Attack Site Details
The stabbing happened outside the Bullring shopping centre, opposite the main entrance of New Street railway station.
Law enforcement confirmed they were treating it as a random violent act with investigators stating they were working to understand the motive behind.
Witness Accounts
Shalini Doal, who works nearby, described paramedic and police activity when she finished her work period around 10 PM Friday night.
She characterized the location as extremely disorderly, and said some of her colleagues heard a commotion around 9 PM.
"A lot of my colleagues use transit services, ride the tramline... our safety is at risk essentially, here in the city centre."
Another individual, twenty-five, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting to Birmingham quite frequently to see his girlfriend who lives in the city, and was concerned about what had happened.
"It causes concern about my partner," he said.
"She doesn't drive employed at all of the big music venues... and to think a totally random act occurred, understandably, it's terrible."
